Dear all,
With climate change already disrupting precipitation patterns, global hydrological cycle, and energy demand, the future contribution and viability of the hydropower sector is uncertain. Understanding these changes is vital for robust policy that ensures future power provision, as well as the continued shift from fossil fuels for energy production.
We are therefore pleased to invite abstract submissions for our session "Challenges and Opportunities for Hydropower Generation Under Climate Change" at AGU21.
We invite contributions aimed at identifying future climate change impacts on hydropower, specifically: (1) generation capacity, timing, and seasonality; (2) environmental and economic viability; (3) renewable energy policy; and (4) other factors relating to hydropower operation, such as water quality.
Contributions are welcome from studies across a range of spatial scales, individual and multi-scheme assessments, and for different hydropower generation methods, such as impoundment, pumped-storage, and run-of-river.
More information on the session, as well as abstract submission can be found at: https://bit.ly/3zyankD. Please note this year's abstract submission deadline of 4 August 2021, 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT.
Finally, we are also delighted to announce our two confirmed invited speakers, Dr Nathalie Voisin (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) and Professor Bart Nijssen (University of Washington) who both bring a wealth of experience in this area to the session, as well as what promise to be highly interesting contributions.
We look forward to your submissions to what should be a highly interesting and varied session, best wishes,
Session convenors: Richard Dallison, Shih-Chieh Kao, Michael Craig, & Sopan Patil)
