SY044. Water Risks, ESG, Corporations and Finance: Trends, Progress and Pitfalls in Frameworks, Data and Metrics, that will be held during the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana (and online)
Dear Colleagues,
Please consider submitting an abstract to present your research during our session, SY044. Water Risks, ESG, Corporations and Finance: Trends, Progress and Pitfalls in Frameworks, Data and Metrics, that will be held during the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana (and online), 13-17 December 2021.
Session Description
The financial materiality of water risks for corporations has grown dramatically over the past two decades. Climate change is likely to worsen the situation and investors have taken notice. Given the shared nature of water, society is seeking accountability from the corporate sector to address scarcity and contamination concerns. Governments, NGOs, the financial sector and academics have responded by developing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks, datasets and tools for corporations to disclose internal and external water risks. As a result, water footprints and scarcity maps are routinely used in ESG disclosures. But, do they reflect the physical and financial risks faced by companies, society and investors? We invite people from all sectors to submit to this session to discuss the progress and challenges in corporate water risk management and disclosure, and how they can be improved to advance water security.
We will be considering submissions for in-person and virtual presentations. Abstracts are due by 4 August 2021.
